General instruction
on how to hold your baby and feed is given during the end of the midwifery care schedule and childbirth education with the goal of giving you the confidence to feed your baby without any assistance once they are born. Additional support is offered only as needed. If desired, our local hospitals have a two hour breastfeeding instruction class that can be taken prenatally.
A local peer support
group, La Leche League, meets online monthly and has active participants in Ruston and Monroe. I highly recommend attending La Leche League prenatally to familiarize and troubleshoot potential breastfeeding problems before they occur. They can be found in a Google search and are active on FaceBook.
As a midwife,
I can come to your home, even if you had a hospital birth, and provide assistance with positions to hold your baby and getting them to latch properly. For non-midwifery care clients, this service is 20.00/hour. For more serious feeding challenges, a referral to a lactation consultant can be provided.
