Rebecca Honeycutt, licensed midwife in Louisiana

Hi, I’m Rebecca Honeycutt, an Arizona native now living in Ruston, Louisiana. I have been helping families navigate their birth experiences since 2003 as a doula or through childbirth education classes, and am recently licensed in the State of Louisiana as a home birth midwife.

Though the years, I have helped hundreds of women during their childbearing year with birth and/or postpartum doula services, individualized childbirth education and consulting, and breastfeeding education and assistance.

My passion is to benefit our community through serving the individual family. People who are cared for, and whose needs are supported in the ways they determine, transition into parenthood more easily, and in turn have an easier time caring for their babies. Babies who have all their needs met have an emotionally healthy start from which to grow even stronger. As a midwife, I care for a birthing person during their journey to parenthood. I listen to them and help them set up support that suits their needs to the fullest.

It all started back in 1986 when I received care from my own midwife. I had good care from my doctor with my first pregnancy, but the care from my midwife with my second pregnancy was exemplary. I knew then that I wanted to share this difference with other people during their childbearing year with the addition that included all the physical health checks of the doctor appointments, but including education and choice on matters concerning the new parent and their baby.

Thanks for stopping by my site. If you have any questions about home birth midwifery in Louisiana, please feel free to call or text. My cell phone number is (318) 599-0579.

Alechia Parker, primary assistant

I was finishing up midwifery training and perplexed as to who I could approach to be my assistant once licensed when Alechia called me one afternoon seeking home birth information for a family member. As we talked, I learned she was an experienced doula and our approach to labor support was very similar. I knew she would make an excellent midwife’s assistant! Since joining our team she has decided to continue in her midwifery journey by becoming an official apprentice. She is my extra set of hands and eyes, and I consider myself fortunate to have such a competent work companion.

Alechia’s role with Midwife Louisiana, LLC is Primary Assistant. She provides hands on care as needed and to your level of comfort. This could be taking vital signs, fetal heart tones or assessing postpartum bleeding. As a seasoned doula, she is ready to offer gentle coaching during transition and pushing phases of labor and is experienced with offering bodyfeeding assistance. Most importantly, she is trained in birth emergency procedures and has specific roles when they arise so we can work together efficiently. She is a nurturing presence who brings a sense of calm to the birthing space.

Mallory Bryant, secondary assistant

Mallory approached me by email as a doula seeking to make networking connections with area birth workers. We met over coffee, and shortly after, we were in need of a secondary assistant. Mallory and my birth birth practices are similarly aligned, so it made sense to invite her to the team. She brings the excitement of a new birth worker with the sensibility of a seasoned one.

Mallory’s role with Midwife Louisiana, LLC is mainly a scribe. She documents important mile stones during delivery and immediate postpartum, freeing Alechia and I to focus on caring for and supporting  you and your baby. In the event of an emergency, she is the one who communicates with 991 dispatch and directs the EMTs to the location of the emergency. This allows Alechia and I the ability to provide uninterrupted care and gives the birth partner the ability to remain with their loved one while help arrives. Her presence at the birth setting is hardly noticed, yet she is the much appreciated force behind the scenes.
